More than one month after the disaster, the situation remains very challenging and the needs are still enormous. Hundreds of thousands of families have lost their homes. Water-borne diseases, including cholera and malaria, are threatening the lives of survivors.

The greatest needs

Our team on the ground has found that survivors still need:

  • Emergency food as majority of crops were destroyed.

  • Emergency health services as many health centres were damaged.

  • Protection against and treatment of water-borne diseases, including cholera and malaria.

Safe drinking water after numerous wells were contaminated by floodwaters.

Our impact

Medair is partnering with Food for the Hungry, Lifeline, and Medical Teams International to create a comprehensive response addressing the holistic needs of survivors – including shelter, safe drinking water, clean sanitation, food security, and health services.

So far, we’ve been able to supply 338 families with emergency shelter kits and cholera prevention kits. More distributions are being planned in order to reach more families in need.
